Almost two thousand years old, and still the most useful sentence anyone has written about building tools for people. Software that treats a person as a vessel gives them fields to fill, steps to follow and a progress bar. Software that treats them as a fire gives them the material and gets out of the way.
Which is a design instruction, not a sentiment. It is why DriveReel does not offer to tell you what happened — it puts nine hours of footage where you can find the two minutes yourself, in about fifteen seconds.
Drift is a method, not a mood.
The wandering is where the idea is
Nobody has ever had the good idea during the status update. They arrive in the shower, on the drive, three days into the wrong approach. A studio can either treat that as waste or arrange itself around it, and we have picked the second.
The machine takes the parts that never needed a mind
Reading 6,000 file headers. Matching a face across four cameras. Transcribing an hour of road noise for the six words that matter. This is precisely what the models are for — and every hour they take back is an hour a person can spend drifting productively.
Range beats focus, at our size
A dashcam app, a reading tool and something for learners have nothing in common as products. As problems they keep lending each other solutions — the search that works on drives came out of thinking about documents.

Written about mathematics; it turns out to be the honest description of building with models. The proving is tests, types and a Swift compiler that will not be argued with. The discovering is the part you cannot schedule.

Your machine does the thinking
Vision, speech and search all run locally. There is no account to make and nothing is uploaded — which cost us the easy version of every one of those features.
Originals are never rewritten
When DriveReel hands you a file it is the camera's own bytes with a hash beside them. Convenience never gets to modify the thing you might one day need to rely on.
The app says when it doesn't know
An unreadable clip is reported, not silently skipped. A missing camera angle is refused, not substituted with a different one. A confident wrong answer is worse than no answer.
Buy it once where we can
Software you own beats software you rent, and we would rather charge properly one time than meter something that runs entirely on your own hardware.

The line is usually quoted at students. It reads differently now that knowledge is the cheap part — a model holds more of it than any of us and will hand it over for a fraction of a cent. What it cannot do is want something that does not exist yet.
